No-Bake 4-Ingredient Peanut Butter Energy Bites

These 4-ingredient no-bake peanut butter energy bites are quick to make with pantry staples and taste just like cookie dough.

Peanut butter energy bites

I’m excited to share this simple, no-bake recipe for peanut butter chocolate energy bites. They’re healthy, portable, and genuinely delicious — a perfect snack to keep on hand for busy days, workouts, or late-night cravings. The ingredients are minimal and likely already in your pantry. I used to make these in college with only a few basic tools, and they’re just as easy now.

Why you’ll love these bites:

  • They taste like peanut butter oatmeal cookie dough while still being a fairly wholesome snack.
  • No oven or stovetop required — everything is mixed in a bowl.
  • They make a great pre-workout fuel, an easy lunchbox addition, or a satisfying late-night snack.
  • They freeze well and taste great straight from the freezer.
  • Only four core ingredients: peanut butter, oats, honey, and chocolate chips.

Mixing peanut butter energy bites

How to Make Peanut Butter Energy Bites

Start by measuring the oats, natural peanut butter, honey, and mini chocolate chips into a medium mixing bowl. If your peanut butter is refrigerated and firm, warm it briefly in the microwave for 20–30 seconds until it softens so it mixes more easily; let it cool slightly so it won’t melt the chocolate chips.

Tip for measuring sticky ingredients: using a kitchen scale eliminates the mess of sticky measuring cups. Place the mixing bowl on the scale and zero it out, then add peanut butter and honey by grams. This makes cleanup easier and measurements more accurate.

Peanut butter and oats

Combine the ingredients and stir for 2–3 minutes until everything is evenly incorporated. The mixture will look and feel like cookie dough — at this point a small taste test is highly recommended.

When I want to sneak in a little extra nutrition, I sometimes stir in a tablespoon or two of ground flaxseed or hemp seeds; they blend into the dough without changing the taste much. You can also add chia seeds, wheat bran, or other small add-ins if you like.

Cookie dough like mixture

If the dough feels very sticky, refrigerate it for an hour or place it in the freezer for 20 minutes to firm up slightly. Otherwise, use a spoon or a cookie scoop to portion into about 24 tablespoon-sized balls. Arrange them on a lined baking sheet or shallow dish and chill in the refrigerator for about an hour so they hold their shape.

How to Store

Store the energy bites in an airtight container or resealable bag in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or freeze for up to three months. I find keeping most of the batch in the freezer helps with portion control — simply pull out one or two when you want them. They also taste great frozen.

Energy bites in container

I make a batch regularly to have on hand for snacks when friends come over or when I need something quick between errands. They disappear fast because everyone seems to love the cookie dough-like flavor.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1 3/4 cups old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats
  • 1/3 cup honey (add a bit more if needed to bind)
  • 1/3 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips (mini chips work well)
  • Optional: up to 1/4 cup wheat bran, ground hemp, flax, or chia seeds

Instructions

  1. If using refrigerated peanut butter, warm it briefly in the microwave (20–30 seconds) until soft, then let it cool slightly so it won’t melt the chocolate chips.
  2. Add the oats, honey, and chocolate chips to the peanut butter bowl. Stir for 2–3 minutes until everything is fully combined. If the mixture is very sticky, refrigerate for an hour or freeze for 20 minutes to firm up.
  3. Line a baking dish or rimmed cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper. Form the dough into about 24 tablespoon-sized balls using a cookie scoop, spoon, or your hands. Place in a single layer and refrigerate for an hour or freeze for at least 20 minutes so they hold their shape.
  4. Transfer to a storage bag or container. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Depending on the brand and thickness of your peanut butter, you may need a little more honey or peanut butter to get the mixture to bind. Mini chocolate chips are recommended so the bites hold together better and the chocolate is evenly distributed.

Variations: swap peanut butter for almond butter if desired, use dark chocolate chips for less sweetness, or toss in a tablespoon of shredded coconut for extra texture. For added fiber and omega-3s, stir in ground flaxseed or chia seeds — they won’t change the flavor much.
