These Baked Chipotle Barbecue Wings are tossed in an easy Homemade Chipotle Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce and baked to perfection. The sauce is sweet with smoky, spicy heat and comes together in minutes.

If you love wings and enjoy finding new takes on classic sauces, you’ve come to the right place. These baked chipotle barbecue wings deliver big flavor while keeping the preparation simple.
At our house we have a regular Wing Night: bake or grill a batch of wings and toss them in several sauces. It’s a fun option for entertaining, Game Day, or a relaxed weeknight dinner. This recipe is a favorite because the chipotle-brown sugar sauce adds a smoky, slightly sweet heat that pairs perfectly with crispy baked chicken.

These wings are tossed in my Homemade Chipotle Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce, a versatile sauce I also use on chicken quesadillas and pork tenderloin. The sauce is easy to make ahead and keeps in the refrigerator for several days, so it’s ready when you want to finish the wings with a quick toss and final bake.
How to make Baked Chipotle Barbecue Wings
Start by arranging the wing segments on a baking sheet. Lining the sheet with foil and spraying it with cooking spray makes cleanup much easier. For crispier skin, place the wings on a wire rack set over the baking sheet so hot air can circulate around each piece.
If you forget the foil like I did in one photo, you’ll quickly remember how much easier cleanup is when you don’t—so I recommend using it!

Should I use fresh or frozen chicken wings?
Either fresh or frozen wings work, but be sure frozen wings are completely thawed and thoroughly patted dry before baking. Excess moisture will steam the skin and prevent it from crisping.
Bake the wings at 425°F for about 50 minutes, skin side up. After the initial bake, remove the wings from the sheet and toss them evenly in the Chipotle Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce. Return them to the baking sheet and cook for an additional 8–10 minutes until the sauce begins to caramelize and become slightly crispy.
Garnish with sliced green onions if desired and serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping. These wings are great hot from the oven and make a crowd-pleasing appetizer or main dish.

If you love wings, try different sauce combinations—from sweet and sticky to garlicky parmesan, the format is the same: bake, toss, and finish for that glossy, saucy coating.
