Build Your Own Avocado Toast Bar

I hosted a Blogging & Brunching gathering and created a build‑your‑own avocado toast bar for my guests. With 15 people to feed I wanted a menu that felt special but was simple to set up. An avocado toast bar delivered just that: customizable, fresh, and fun. I paired it with an asparagus, mushroom, cheddar, and egg casserole and a fresh fruit salad. The whole brunch came together in about two hours and cost under $100.
This format works well for casual get‑togethers, bridal showers, baby showers, or any brunch where guests enjoy assembling their own plates. It’s easy to scale up or down, and the toppings let everyone create exactly what they like.

Serves and Time
Serves: 15–20
Total prep & setup time: about 1–2 hours
Ingredients and Toppings
You will need:
- 2 loaves of sliced bread (toasted)
- 10 ripe avocados
- 1 lemon (juice)
- Salt and pepper
- 2 lb bacon (or adjust to taste)
- Radishes, shaved with a vegetable peeler
- Sriracha
- Red pepper flakes
- Prosciutto
- Crumbled goat cheese
- Shredded cheddar
- Sliced tomatoes
- Cowboy caviar (black bean and corn salsa)
- Roasted red pepper
Other topping ideas:
- Sliced hard‑boiled eggs
- Peas or snap peas
- Salsa
- Cream cheese

Step-by-Step Prep
Step 1 — Bake the bacon: Bake bacon in batches at 400°F (about 200°C) for roughly 20 minutes. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top so the bacon crisps without sitting in grease. Drain on paper towels and arrange for serving. Baking makes cleanup easier and yields evenly crispy bacon.
Step 2 — Set up the station: Cover your counter or table with butcher paper or a large serving mat. Write simple instructions for guests (toast bread, spread avocado, add toppings) and label each topping so everyone knows what’s what. A clear layout keeps traffic moving and makes the spread inviting.

Step 3 — Prep toppings: Roast peppers, slice tomatoes, and shave radishes. Place ready‑to‑use toppings in bowls for easy access. Keep chilled ingredients in the fridge until just before serving.
Step 4 — Make the avocado: Halve and pit the avocados, scoop the flesh into a large bowl, and add the juice of one lemon plus salt and pepper. Mash lightly with a potato masher so the mixture remains a bit chunky. To keep things fresh, split the avocado into two bowls: one for serving and one chilled in the fridge to replenish as needed.
Step 5 — Final layout: Arrange toasted bread, avocado, and all toppings on the butcher paper or serving area. Label each item and provide small spoons or tongs for hygiene. Encourage guests to experiment with combinations—sweet, savory, spicy, and tangy toppings all work beautifully on avocado toast.
I loved watching everyone create their own flavor combinations. The format is low‑stress to prepare, looks beautiful, and lets guests personalize their plates. With a few simple components and a clear setup, an avocado toast bar makes a memorable and delicious brunch centerpiece.
